The Actuator Performance Test Rig was developed for an aerospace customer testing electric actuators. ETS provided a full design, build, test, and installation service based on the customer’s in-house test procedures for the actuators. The system logs data on electrical and mechanical performance over a range of loads. as well as recording results of inspection procedures.
The test system is housed in a floor-standing structure with an interlocked enclosure and operator control bench which includes a PC running the rigs bespoke control and testing software.
The actuators are mounted in the enclosure between a load cell and a carriage and slide assembly to which the load is applied.
The control system applies a programmable load to the actuator to up to 400 lbf during testing. The carriage and slide assembly contain a linear encoder which is used to measure the stroke of the actuators. Both AC and DC actuators are connected to the test rig with a unique test lead which ensures that the correct test voltage is used. The system also carries out high voltage insulation tests.
Ensuring that the test rig is operator friendly and quick to use the software contains pre-set tests that can be selected based on the actuator part number. Operators can create new tests for additional actuators and modify existing tests should test criteria change.
